When authoring music files onto a CD/ DVD or transferring the files to a digital audio player, a batch renamer can be used to listen to songs in desired order. When managing large amount of files, such as a picture database, a batch renamer is more or less essential for the task of maintaining filenames without too much manual labour.A batch renamer can be used to quickly change the filenames to a style that suits the person who downloaded them. When downloading files from the Internet such as mp3 music, the files often have crude names.Using a batch renamer the photographer can easily give the pictures meaningful names. Many digital cameras store images using a base filename, such as DCSN0001 or IMG0001.There are many situations where batch renaming software can be useful. Features include changing the dates of files and changing the file attributes (such as the write protected attribute). Some batch rename software can do more than just renaming filenames. Use a text file as a source for new file names.Add a number sequence (001,002,003.) to a list of files.Extracting information from the files, such as Mp3 ID3 tags, and putting it in the filename.Setting the capitalization of the letters in the filenames.Find a string within the filename and replace it with another, or remove it.Locate and right-click the desired folder, then select Send to Desktop (create shortcut). Most batch renamers share a basic set of functions to manipulate the filenames:.Also note that copying a shortcut onto a flash drive will not work if you want to bring a file with you, you'll need to navigate to the actual location of the file and copy it to the flash drive. If you delete a shortcut, it will not delete the actual folder or the files it contains. Note that creating a shortcut does not create a duplicate copy of the folder it's simply a way to access the folder more quickly. A shortcut will have a small arrow in the lower-left corner of the icon. Instead of navigating to the file or folder each time you want to use it, you can simply double-click the shortcut to open it. If you have a file or folder you use frequently, you can save time by creating a shortcut on the desktop. In the next lesson, we'll talk about another important concept: how to find files on your computer that you can't easily locate. You'll start to feel more comfortable as you continue using your computer. If working with files and folders feels a little tricky right now, don't worry! Like anything else, working with files and folders is largely a matter of practice. We'll talk more about these in our lesson on Keyboard Shortcuts in Windows. Ctrl+A is an example of a keyboard shortcut.
